At the stroke of 8pm on Sunday evening, March 31, 1957, CBS broadcast a special live television event: Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, starring Julie Andrews. The result was the largest television audience up to that time, 107 million Americans (at a time when the U.S. populations was 172 million). That record held for nearly 40 years.
Cinderella is a folk tale with thousands of versions throughout the world. The earliest known version was recounted by the Greek geographer Strabo sometime between 7BC and 23AD. The version most widely known in the English speaking world was published in France by Charles Perrault in 1697.
We are happy to be presenting this magical timeless fairy tale
